Abstract:
Process is for the directional solidification of a melt (1) of a first metal in a casting mould (2), whereby the melt (1) is introduced into the mould at a temp. above the m. pt. of the first metal and then cooled in the mould (2) by dipping the mould (2) into a bath (3) of a molten second metal at a second temp. below the m. pt. of the first metal. The bath (3) is covered with a free-flowing, floating layer (4) of loose thermally insulating material (5,6) through which the mould (2) contg. the melt (1) is dipped. Appts. for carrying out the method is also claimed.
