Abstract:
Water pretreatment unit (A), comprises: direct contact exchanger having a continuous phase (7) comprising a water immiscible liquid having density of greater than 1.25. Independent claims are included for: (1) the use of the exchanger comprising water immiscible liquid as a continuous phase, for the treatment of water, preferably for the pretreatment of saline water; and (2) process for pretreatment of water by implementing a pretreatment unit, comprising: compressing water (2) to be treated at a predetermined pressure; introducing water under pressure, as drops of water, at a lower end of exchanger part to carry out heat exchange and/or counter current ion exchange between ascending water drops and descending continuous phase; and recovering pretreated water.
