Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity index improver which realizes excellent shear stability of a lubricant composition and low HTHS viscosity of the lubricant composition in an effective temperature region and hardly increases yield stress and low-temperature viscosity of the lubricant composition.SOLUTION: The viscosity index improver contains a (co)polymer (A) comprising as essential constituent monomers a monomer including a monomer (a) represented by the formula (1), where Xis a group represented by -O- or NH-, and a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester (b) having a C1-C4 linear alkyl group. On the basis of the weight of (A), the content of (a) is 51-99 wt.%, the content of (b) is 10-49 wt.%, and the content of constituent monomers other than (a) and (b) is less than 20 wt.%.
