PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for a friction stirring process.SOLUTION: A steel has a composition comprising, in mass%, C: 0.40-1.50%, Si: 0.15-2.00%, Mn: 0.30-2.00%, Cr: 0.50-3.00%, and optionally one or two or more of Mo: 0.05-0.50%, B: 0.0003-0.0100%, Ti: 0.01-0.10%, V: 0.05-0.50%, and Nb: 0.005-0.10%, with the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities.
