PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet binding processing apparatus capable of selecting the binding processing method between needle binding and non-needle binding when bundle-stacking, in an aligned state, the sheets fed from a sheet discharge path on a processing tray, and also capable of shortening the processing time and increasing the productivity according to the selected binding processing method.SOLUTION: The sheet binding processing apparatus has the respective binding units disposed such that the sheets fed from a sheet discharge path are bundle-stacked in an aligned state on a processing tray and selection is allowed as to whether the sheets are bound with needle or bound without needle. When sheets of which lengths are different orthogonally to the sheet discharge direction are bound in a mode of binding at two or more positions with needle, the sheet binding processing apparatus aligns the sheets on the processing tray with the center as the reference. When the sheets are bound in a mode of binding at a sheet corner with needle, the apparatus aligns the sheets with one side as the reference. When the sheets are bound in a mode of binding at a sheet corner without needle, the apparatus aligns the sheets with one side or the center as the reference and then moves the sheet bundle orthogonally to the sheet discharge direction, and sets the bundle in a binding position.
