Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent fluttering of a chain by keeping an interior part at high-pressure, and properly maintaining tension of a timing chain even when an engine is stopped for a long period of time.SOLUTION: A hydraulic chain tensioner 9 has a plunger 22 which can freely protrude and retracts from/to a cylinder 21a of a housing 21, and can freely press a timing chain 8. A check valve 24 which has a clearance 23 for generating prescribed oil damping between an internal face of the plunger 22 and itself, and permits only a flow of oil from a base end side of the plunger 22 to a tip side of the plunger 22 is arranged in the plunger 22. A cylindrical sleeve 26 to which the plunger 22 is slidably and externally fit, the one end face 26a of which abuts on the housing 21, and the other end face 26b of which abuts on a valve body 31 of the check valve 24 is arranged in the cylinder 21a of the housing 21, and a plurality of grooves 26c which make the outside and the inside of the sleeve 26 communicate with each other are disposed at the other end face 26b of the sleeve 26.
