Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a viscosity index improver containing a polymethacrylic polymer that has a high viscosity index and a good shear stability, and that has a high base-oil solubility and metal abrasion resistance; as well as a lubrication oil composition in which a polymethacrylate-based viscosity index improver is used.SOLUTION: Provided are: a viscosity index improver containing a polymer obtained by polymerizing, as an essential component, (a) a monomer comprising one or more functional group selected from a hydroxyl group, an amide group, an amino group and a carboxyl group, and (b) a maleimide-based monomer, and having a solubility parameter of 9.10 or more and 10.10 or less; and a lubrication oil composition containing a lubrication oil and the viscosity index improver.SELECTED DRAWING: None
