Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste collection system capable of informing medical/surgical procedure personnel that a metal object may have been inadvertently discarded.SOLUTION: A solid medical waste collection system 40 for collecting solid medical waste includes a mobile cart 42 with a bag 54 for storing the waste. A pre-detection apparatus detects metal-containing objects prior to placing the metal-containing objects inside the bag to thereby reduce costs to a facility in which the cart is employed. The system may also include a bag-tensioning mechanism 900 for securing the bag to the cart.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
