PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine system and a control method for an internal combustion engine system, which rapidly increase temperature in an exhaust gas aftertreatment system to a working temperature and/or maintain the increased temperature in a working temperature range for a long time period.SOLUTION: A method is for increasing temperature in an internal combustion engine system 100 in a critical temperature operation state such as a low temperature start state and comprises a step of determining whether the internal combustion engine system 100 operates in a critical temperature state, and a step of, when the internal combustion engine system 100 operates in the critical temperature state, exerting control to make a first cylinder group 2a inoperative by not feeding fuel to a cylinder of the first cylinder group 2a and exerting control to make a second cylinder group 2b operative by feeding fuel to a cylinder of the second cylinder group 2b, thereby increasing temperature in the internal combustion engine system 100.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
