Abstract:
To provide a driving support device allowing an own vehicle to search an avoidance destination where the vehicle can surely move, and thus safely avoid.SOLUTION: A detection section detects peripheral vehicles traveling on a rear side of an own vehicle. An acquisition section acquires positional information on the peripheral vehicles, travel information on the peripheral vehicles, and driver information on the peripheral vehicles. A first determination section determines whether an object vehicle having a high possibility of shortening an inter-vehicle distance with the own vehicle exists in the peripheral vehicles. A calculation section determines a time when the object vehicle catches up a rear end of the own vehicle including a case where the object vehicle is accelerated (S13). A second determination section determines a search distance of a free space on the basis of a time for catching up to the own vehicle and the speed-increasing force transmitted from a driving section, and determines whether the free space capable of avoiding approach of the object vehicle by the speed-increasing force that the own vehicle has within the range of the determined search distance exists in a left side lane closest to a passing lane, for example. A control section controls the driving section, a braking section, an auxiliary machine section, and a steering section so as to move to the free space when the free space exists (S26).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
