Abstract:
To prevent a pressure from excessively acting on a catalyst layer, a gas diffusion layer and an electrolyte membrane when press-fitting the electrolyte membrane, the catalyst layer and the gas diffusion layer.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a membrane-electrode assembly 20 comprises: a first step of preparing a membrane-electrode assembly 20 with an outer peripheral portion of a polymer electrolyte membrane 21 exposed from an anode catalyst layer 221, a cathode catalyst layer 231, an anode gas diffusion layer 222 and a cathode gas diffusion layer 232; a second step of putting the membrane-electrode assembly 20 on a bedplate 101 so that the cathode gas diffusion layer 232 is in contact with the bedplate 101; and a third step of applying a pressure to the membrane-electrode assembly 20 in its thickness direction. The first or second step includes the step of providing a first spacer 103 of a thickness smaller than a total thickness of the anode catalyst layer 221 and the anode gas diffusion layer 222 on the outer peripheral portion of the polymer electrolyte membrane 21.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
