Abstract:
To provide a surface-coated cutting tool exerting excellent wear resistance and chipping resistance in a high-speed cutting process of alloy steel and the like.SOLUTION: The hard coating layer of a surface-coated cutting tool is a two-layered or more multilayered coating layer made by alternately laminating a low Al-AlTiN layer and a high Al-AlTiN layer on the surface of a tool substrate. A composition of the low Al-AlTiN layer is (AlTi)N, 0.50≤x<0.70 (x is an atomic ratio), and a main phase is a cubic crystal structure, and that of the high Al-AlTiN layer is (AlTi)N, 0.70≤y≤0.95 (y is an atomic ratio), and the main phase is a hexagonal crystal structure. The composition of whole coated layer is (AlTi)N, 0.60≤z≤0.85 (z is the atomic ratio). A hexagonal crystal grain forming the hexagonal crystal structure is characterized by growing straddling on the high Al-AlTiN layer and the low Al-AlTiN layer adjacent to the former.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
