Abstract:
To provide a cutting insert that is formed in the same shape as shapes of corners of a polygonal surface such as a triangle surface and having a cutting edge provided around the center shaft thereof to have rotational symmetry, which is used in outer-diameter lather-turning processing accompanied by taper processing for processing a large diameter and a small diameter by high cutting, is fixed to a holder while being placed vertically and has a negative lateral rake angle formed on a rake face of a lateral cutting edge, which can enhance chop processability.SOLUTION: In the cutting insert, a lateral cutting edge 210 is provided at a crossing ridge 160 between a polygonal surface 140 and an outer peripheral surface 110 thereof, and a rake face 120 of the cutting edge and a flank face 130 of a front cutting edge 220 forming a cutting edge 200 different from the cutting edge 210 are provided on the outer peripheral surface 110. On the flank face 130 are formed a negative lateral rake angle α of the lateral cutting edge 210 and an opposite positive inclined angle β, and on the rake face 120 are formed breaker grooves 300 in a shape extending longitudinally, which also are formed in a shape in which the grooves are cut into the rake face 130 to divide flank face 120, which enables chips to easily flow rearward from rear ends of the breaker grooves 300.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
