Abstract:
To provide an image forming apparatus that inhibits the occurrence of a measurement error of the film thickness of an outermost surface layer of an image carrier due to a change in temperature of a measurement atmosphere.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: image carriers that each carry a toner image; light sources that each irradiate the image carrier with light in a predetermined wavelength region; spectroscopic means that each disperse the light reflected on the surface of the image carrier; optical sensors that each detect the light dispersed by the spectroscopic means; and temperature control means for the image carriers. The image forming apparatus includes: film thickness detection means that each calculate the film thickness of an outermost surface layer of the image carrier on the basis of the spectroscopic spectral intensity of the reflected light in which the reflected light on the surface of the outermost surface layer of the image carrier and the reflected light inside the outermost surface layer are interfered with each other; and temperature measurement means that each measure the temperature of the image carrier, and the image forming apparatus controls the detection executed by the film thickness detection means on the basis of a result of detection executed by the temperature measurement means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
