Abstract:
To enhance reliability of diagnoses.SOLUTION: A diagnostic device for an internal combustion engine 1 includes: a catalyst 24 provided in an exhaust passage 4; a first diagnosis section 100 for making a first diagnosis to determine, on the basis of a purification ratio of the catalyst, whether the purification ratio is normal or abnormal; a second diagnosis section 100 for making a second diagnosis to determine, on the basis of the purification ratio of the catalyst, whether the purification ratio is normal or abnormal; and a comprehensive diagnosis section 100 for making a comprehensive diagnosis to determine whether the purification ratio is normal or abnormal on the basis of results of the first diagnosis and the second diagnosis. The first diagnosis section confirms the result of the first diagnosis when inflow amount of a specific constituent in the catalyst reaches first amount. The second diagnosis section makes a plurality of sub diagnoses, confirms results of the sub diagnoses every time the inflow amount of the specific constituent in the catalyst reaches second amount smaller than the first amount, and confirms the result of the second diagnosis on the basis of the results of all of the sub diagnoses.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
