To reduce the generation of waves in acoustic matching liquid.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition apparatus comprises: a holding member for holding a subject; a liquid tub arranged below the holding member to store acoustic matching liquid; probes arranged in the liquid tub to receive acoustic waves transmitted from the subject; a position control unit for controlling a relative position of the holding member to the liquid tub; and a drive condition determination unit for determining the drive condition of the position control unit according to the kind of the holding member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
