Abstract:
To provide a battery electrode composition which can prevent the degradation of an electrode and a battery.SOLUTION: An battery electrode composition is provided, comprising composite particles 100. The composite particles each comprise an active material 102 and a scaffolding matrix 104. The active material is prepared to store and release ions during battery operation. For certain active materials of interest, the storing and releasing of the ions cause a substantial change in volume of the active material. The scaffolding matrix is prepared as a porous, electrically-conductive scaffolding matrix within which the active material is disposed. In this way, the scaffolding matrix structurally supports the active material, electrically interconnects the active material, and accommodates the changes in volume of the active material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
