Abstract:
To make it possible to obtain vegetable fibers in laboratory conditions through isolated xylematic tissue cambial cells and thereby to provide an alternative method to the production of fibers from plants.SOLUTION: A method for obtaining fibers from plant meristematic cells is provided, the method comprising the steps of: (a) identifying and isolating vegetable meristematic cambial cells; (b) multiplying the isolated meristematic cambial cells; (c) inducing production of fiber-like structures from the cultured meristematic cambial cells; and (d) producing fibers from the fiber-like cells (protofibers).SELECTED DRAWING: None
