Abstract:
To provide a polymeric additive for use in a lubricating oil composition (lubricant) for lubricating a crankcase of a spark-ignited or compression-ignited internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition comprises a major amount of an oil with lubricating viscosity, and 0.01 to 25 mass percentage, based on the mass of the composition, of an oil-soluble copolymer. The copolymer comprises a unit (a) and a unit (b): in the formula, the polymer has an organic nucleophilic polymerization terminating group (t), and an initiator group (i) connected to a N atom of a repeat unit (a) or (b), the initiator group (i) is effective for initiating polymerization of a linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl part, Rand Rare the same or different and comprises a single or a mixture of a linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl group having 1 to 50 carbon atoms, some or all having 12 to 50 carbon atoms, or of at least one macro-monomer hydrocarbyl group with more than 50 carbon atoms.SELECTED DRAWING: None
