Abstract:
To provide a magnetic ink reader and a printer capable of preventing media from being erroneously pulled out by a user and downsizing the devices by simplifying their structures when processing the media by reading magnetic ink printed thereon.SOLUTION: A magnetic ink reader 50 is provided with a housing 11 and a conveying mechanism 40. The housing is provided with a media access port 12 to insert and take out the media printed by using magnetic ink. The conveying mechanism is provided with a magnetization mechanism 60 conveying the media along a conveying passage and magnetizing the magnetic ink of the media on the conveying passage, and a magnetism detection head 70 arranged adjacent to the magnetization mechanism along the conveying passage and reading the magnetism of the magnetized magnetic ink. Further, a reversal mechanism arranged at the media access port of the conveying passage to reverse front and rear faces of the media at an internal reversing passage is included, while the reversal mechanism is provided with an escape passage T to make the media temporarily escape when the magnetism detection head reads the magnetism on the media.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
