To provide yeast cells for conducting a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process which includes: hydrolysis of starch substrates (granular, liquefied, or solubilized) to saccharides (e.g., glucose); and fermentation of the saccharides into alcohol or the like.SOLUTION: The invention provides yeast cells expressing Glucoamylases AfGA or variants thereof from Aspergillus fumigatus that can catalyze saccharification for extended periods at high temperature and an acidic pH. Also provided is a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process conducted in the yeast cells.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
