Abstract:

To provide a transverse segment in which a lubricant can easily reach between rings of a ring stack to prevent excessive wear of the rings caused by slippage inside a belt.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a transverse segment (1) for a drive belt for a continuously variable transmission, which comprises a ring stack and a plurality transverse segments (1) attached along the circumference of the ring stack. The transverse segment (1) defines a central opening (5) that is demarcated by a boundary surface (13) of a base portion (10) of the transverse segment (1). The base portion (10) of the transverse segment (1) is provided with cutout areas (18) that are locally reduced in thickness and extend from the boundary surface (13) downward in the height direction. The cutout area (18) provides a passage for letting a lubricant flow outward in the radial direction between adjacent transverse segments (1) in a curved section of the drive belt during operation of the transmission.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
