Abstract:
To provide an ignitor for an internal combustion engine which can improve ignition performance, and can suppress enlargement and a high cost.SOLUTION: An ignitor 1 for an internal combustion engine has an ignition plug 2, an AC voltage application part 5 and an application voltage control part 6. The ignition plug 2 has a pocket part 11 whose tip side X1 is opened between an external peripheral face of a tip part 30 of an insulation insulator 300 and an internal peripheral face of a housing 200. The AC voltage application part 5 applies an AC voltage to a center electrode 400. The application voltage control part 6 controls the AC voltage application part 5 so as to apply an AC voltage having an amplitude W1 smaller than that of a required voltage Vr to the center electrode 400 during a first period T1 prior to ignition timing T0, and controls the AC voltage application part 5 so as to apply a second AC voltage AC2 smaller than a first AC voltage AC1 in an amplitude, or to stop the application of the AC voltage to the center electrode 400 during a second period T2 prior to the ignition timing T0 after the lapse of the first period T1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
