Abstract:
To improve both the shift characteristic of an overrun downshift and traveling comfort during the coasting process of a motor vehicle.SOLUTION: In a method for operating a drive train 1 of a motor vehicle, the drive train comprises a drive assembly 2, a transmission 3 with a hydrodynamic torque converter 4, an engine brake unit 6, and an output part 5. In an overrun mode of the drive train, before carrying out an overrun downshift in which a turbine rotation speed of the torque converter falls below an engine idling rotation speed of the drive assembly, the engine brake device, which is activated during a coasting process, is deactivated at a point of time chosen such that, when the overrun downshift is carried out, a load change in the drive train is avoided, in which the turbine rotation speed intersects with the engine idling rotation speed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
