Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine capable of changing a compression ratio by disposing two pistons in one cylinder, and improving heat efficiency.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a large piston 11 in which a cylindrical cavity 11a is pierced, a small piston 12 slidably disposed in the cavity 11a, a transmission member 16 for transmitting movement of a small connecting rod 14 to a crank arm 15, first and second restriction members 21, 22 for restricting movement of the transmission member 16, and a restriction member driving mechanism 30 for moving relative positions of the first and second restriction members 21, 22 to the transmission member 16. Movement of the large piston 11 is transmitted to the small piston 12 through a large connecting rod 13, the transmission member 16, and the small connecting rod 14. A top dead center position of the small piston 12 is changeable by changing the positions of the first and second restriction members 21, 22.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
