Abstract:
To provide an electrode for anode of microbial fuel cell using a compact of low crystalline carbon having high water absorption and material strength, and excellent in endurance and suitable for waste water treatment.SOLUTION: In a carbon electrode for anode of microbial fuel cell for treating waste water, the carbon electrode is a compact of porous low crystalline carbon where the carbon of at least the surface layer has a mean lattice spacing d002 of the 002 face of graphite hexagon net surface layer measured by X-ray diffractometry of 0.340 nm or more, and the size Lc (002) of crystalline is less than 10 nm, and bending strength of the carbon compact is 10 MPa or more. A microbial fuel cell using that electrode for anode is also provided.SELECTED DRAWING: None
