Abstract:
To provide a honeycomb structure capable of improving the purifying performance while suppressing deterioration of the strength.SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure comprises a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body 4 having porous partition walls. A plurality of cells 2 include partially clogged cells 2a that account for 10 to 80% of the total number of the plurality of cells 2, each of the partially clogged cells having a protrusion 5 protruding from a surface of the partition wall 1 into the cell 2. The protrusion 5 in each of the partially clogged cells 2a is formed on a portion in a direction in which the partially clogged cells 2a extend. Each of the partially clogged cells 2a, in a projected view in a direction extending from a first end face 11 to a second end face 12 of the honeycomb structure body 4, has a ratio of the area of the protrusions to the whole of the flow channel area including the protrusions 5 of the partially clogged cells 2a being 5 to 80%. The partition walls 1 surrounding each of the partially clogged cells 2a have a thickness at the thinnest part of 0.038 mm or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
