Abstract:
To provide a system and a method for determining an orientation of a device.SOLUTION: A method includes a step of providing a vehicle having a hinge joint such that chassis sections are capable of rotation with respect to each other, a first wheel is mounted to one of the chassis sections, and a second wheel is mounted to the other of the chassis sections, respectively. Vehicle geometric data defining distance between the hinge joint and centers of the first and second wheels, respectively, and defining a diameter of the wheels is provided. Surface geometric data defining a curvature of a surface can be provided. An angle of rotation around the hinge joint is measured. An orientation of the vehicle relative to a surface can be determined on the basis of the vehicle geometric data, the surface geometric data, and the measured angle of rotation. A system and a method for determining the orientation of an object is also provided.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
