Abstract:
To provide a process for preparing amphiphilic polyethylene-based copolymers.SOLUTION: The process comprises a. obtaining an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having 9.3 to 25 weight percent of vinyl acetate; b. reacting the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer with potassium methoxide to prepare a mixture of polymeric potassium alkoxide and methyl acetate co-products; c. performing distillation on the mixture of polymeric potassium alkoxide and methyl acetate co-products to remove the methyl acetate co-products; d. performing ethylene oxide ring-opening polymerization on the polymeric potassium alkoxide using 1,3 propane sultone; e. removing aliquots during the ethylene oxide ring-opening polymerization to allow systemic variation in the degree of polymerization of ethylene oxide side chains; and f. collecting an amphiphilic polyethylene based graft copolymer generated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
