Abstract:
To detect an obstacle in the periphery of the host vehicle on the basis of the angle profile of a received electromagnetic wave signal.SOLUTION: A target detection method of the present invention includes the steps of: specifying an angle profile that is an angle distribution characteristic from a received electromagnetic wave signal arriving at the host vehicle; predicting an angle profile on the basis of previously obtained road environment information pertaining to the surrounding of the host vehicle; calculating a difference of the former angle profile minus the latter angle profile; examining a temporal change of difference element when it is confirmed that a difference element larger than a prescribed threshold exists in the calculated difference; and determining that a new static obstacle exists and changing road environment information when it is confirmed that there is in effect no occurrence of a temporal change of the difference element.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
