Abstract:
To provide a technology capable of shortening the light irradiation time for reading a script at a position where the script does not exist, when determining the original size.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus includes an original platen having a first end part parallel with a first direction, a second end part parallel with a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, reading means for reading the image of the script, by reading the image of one line in the second direction of the script placed on the original platen at multiple positions in the first direction, while moving in the first direction, detection means for detecting whether the script exists at the position of the original platen away, by a first distance from the second end part in the first direction and away, by a second distance, from the first end part in the second direction, and control means for controlling the read starting position of the reading means in the first direction, on the basis of detection results from the detection means, when determining the script size on the basis of the first reading results from the reading means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
