Abstract:
To provide a fusion splicer for easily and efficiently performing work of fusing and splicing two optical fibers together.SOLUTION: A fusion splicer includes: a drive part for performing positional adjustment in a longer direction of an optical fiber that is a fusion splicing object; an imaging part for imaging a predetermined space region where the positional adjustment takes place, from a radial direction of the optical fiber; an image processing part for detecting a position of a tip surface of the optical fiber in the longer direction, on the basis of the captured image; and a control part for controlling the drive part. The control part compares the detected initial position of the tip surface of the optical fiber in the longer direction with a position of a reference set line, and if the reference set line is on an optical fiber base end side of the initial position of the tip surface of the optical fiber in the longer direction, the drive part is controlled to retract the tip surface of the optical fiber in the longer direction to the optical fiber base end side of the reference set line.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
