Abstract:
To provide a mold powder in which three conditions required for slag is highly harmonized to facilitate stable operation of continuous casting of a high-quality slab, namely: (condition 1) retaining lubrication between a solidifying shell and a mold; (condition 2) properly retaining the viscosity and the interfacial tension so as not to be dragged into molten steel; and (condition 3) controlling the heat flux from the solidifying shell to the mold to retain a proper cooling rate.SOLUTION: The mold powder contains SiO2 and CaO as principal components, with the mass ratio of CaO to SiO2 (CaO/SiO2) from 0.9 to 1.6 inclusive, where the F content and the Al2O3 content are respectively 5.0-14.0 mass% and 6.0-14.0 mass%, the mass ratio of F to Al2O3 (F/Al2O3) is 0.8 or more, the MgO content is 2.0-14.0 mass%, and the total content of Na2O and Li2O is 0.0-2.0 mass%.SELECTED DRAWING: None
