To provide a plastic optical fiber excellent in translucency, bending resistance, and durability.SOLUTION: A plastic optical fiber includes at least a core, a first cladding, and a second cladding in this sequence. There are provided the plastic optical fiber in which a melt viscosity η1 of the first cladding and a melt viscosity η2 of the second cladding at 240°C satisfy a relationship of 200 Pa s<η1-η2<2000 Pa s, and a method for manufacturing the optical fiber.SELECTED DRAWING: None
