Abstract:
To provide polymerization of alkyne monomers using a catalyst selected from among a trianionic pincer ligand supported metal-alkylidyne complex, a tetra-anionic pincer-ligand supported metal-alkyne, and a tetra-anionic pincer-ligand supported metallacycloalkylene complex.SOLUTION: In the invention, [O2C(tBuC=)W(η2-HC≡CtBu)] (4) realizes polymerization of alkyne monomers to provide unsaturated cyclic polymers of high molecular mass and a high rate of polymerization. The unsaturated cyclic polymers can be hydrogenated to saturated cyclic polymers. Cyclic poly(phenylacetylene) can be converted into cyclic polystyrene.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
