To allow a user to favorably perceive the possibility of a contact with an object in a real world.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: position estimation means that estimates, based on a video obtained by an imaging unit that picks up an image of a real space, the self position of the imaging unit in the real space; recognition means that recognizes a real object present within a certain distance from the self position based on the video; area determination means that determines a predetermined area in the real space based on predetermined image characteristics included in the video; and determination means that determines whether to issue a warning according to whether the real object recognized by the recognition means is included in the predetermined area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
