Abstract:
To prevent engine stall in sudden braking without depending on a master cylinder pressure sensor and a stroke sensor of a brake pedal.SOLUTION: A vehicle control device, which controls a vehicle has a torque converter and an automatic transmission interposed between an output shaft of an internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle and a drive wheel of the vehicle, detects that a brake pedal is stepped on by a driver of the vehicle, and releases lock up of a torque converter by a lock up clutch on the conditions that a reduction amount of an instantaneous value of an engine speed detected every time an output shaft of the internal combustion engine rotates at a predetermined angle exceeds a threshold set according to a current vehicle speed or a transmission ratio of an automatic transmission or an absolute value of a reduction amount per unit time of the vehicle speed exceeds a threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
