Abstract:
To provide a method for determining an average discharge amount of an exhaust component in an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine comprises a control unit 50, a sensor 40 configured to detect a concentration of a first exhaust component in exhaust, and a sensor 41 configured to detect a concentration of reference gas in the exhaust. The reference gas is oxygen or carbon dioxide. The control unit 50 determines the reference gas concentration difference between intake and exhaust, and determines an average discharge amount of the first exhaust component as a function of the detected concentration of the first exhaust component and a function of the determined reference gas concentration difference between intake and exhaust.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
