Abstract:
To provide an image forming apparatus that can reduce costs for replacement units and the apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises a unit holding section that holds, in a selectively removable manner, a first replacement unit that performs development processing with toner and a second replacement unit that performs development processing with a toner in a color different from the toner for the first replacement unit. The image forming apparatus allows a user to select a first image forming mode for performing an image forming operation by using the first replacement unit and a second image forming mode for performing the image forming operation by using the second replacement unit. The image forming apparatus has determination means that determines whether the replacement unit corresponding to the image forming mode is held in the unit holding section based on the presence or absence of opening and closing of an opening and closing cover from the previous image forming operation to the current image forming operation and the presence or absence of a change of the image forming mode from the previous image forming operation to the current image forming operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
