Abstract:
To provide an optical waveguide element capable of separating two circularly polarized light.SOLUTION: An optical waveguide element is configured to include: a support substrate 10; a clad 20 formed on the support substrate; and an optical waveguide core 30 embedded in the clad and provided in parallel to an upper surface of the support substrate. The optical waveguide core has a coupling unit 100 for converting one of two orthogonally circularly polarized light components of spatial light into a predetermined polarized wave of a p-th (p is an integer of zero or more) mode and the other into a predetermined polarized wave of q-th (q is an integer of zero or more that is different from p) mode to introduce it into an optical waveguide core.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
