Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:An enzymic derivative having a photochromic substance chemically bound to an enzymic. EXAMPLE:Spiropyran-bound alcohol dehydrogenase. USE:A control material for enzymic reaction by irradiation with light. PREPARATION:For example, acethylmercaptosuccinic anhydride is added and reacted with a solution of an enzyme (e.g. alcohol dehydrogenase) and hydrolysis is then carried out to introduce thiol groups into the enzyme. A photochromic substance, such as spiropyran, expressed by the formula and having maleimide group introduced thereinto is subsequently added and reacted therewith to afford an enzymic derivative having the bound photochromic substance. Furthermore, the resultant derivative is reacted with an antibody specific for the photochromic substance to inhibit the enzyme activity by steric hindrance of the antibody. The obtained derivative is irradiated with light to isomerize the photochromic substance, eliminate the antibody and initiate enzymic reaction. Thereby, the enzymic reaction can be controlled.
