Abstract:
PURPOSE:To immobilize microorganisms stably in the pores of an immobilizing carrier by constituting the carrier of a porous sheet-shaped or three- dimensionally formed product consisting primarily of artificial fibers having >=40 dyne/cm surface tension. CONSTITUTION:A porous sheet-shaped or three-dimensionally formed product is obtd. by binding a material consisting primarily of artificial fiber as an essential component. A carrier for immobilizing microorganisms is produced by regulating the surface tension of the formed product to >=40 dyne/cm by treating the surface with corona discharge or plasma jet, etc. Preferred artificial fibers are those having 0.1-30mum mean fiber diameter and >=100mum mean fiber length, such as artificial inorganic fiber e.g. glass fiber, alumina-silica fiber, alumina fiber, etc., or artificial org. fiber e.g. polyamide fiber, polyester fiber, etc.
