Abstract:
This improved colour developer for silver halide colour photographic material contains a cpd. with the general formula (I) and at least one cpd. selected from those of formulae (II) and (III). R1 and R2 are independently a 1-3C alkyl, L is a (cyclo)alkylene or a phenylene gp., or a gp. represented by -L8-O-L8-O-L8 or -L9-Z-L9-, where Z has formula (IV), (V) or (VI). L1 to L13 represent, independently a H atom, a hydroxyl gp., a carboxylic acid gp. or its salt or a phosphonic acid gp. or its salt, and at least two of R3 to R6 are carboxylic acid gps. or their salts or phosphonic acid gps. or their salts, and at least one of R7 to R9 is a carboxylic acid gp. or its salt or a phosphonic acid gp. or its salt. The concn. of sulphorous acid is 5 x 10 power -4 to 2 x 10 power -2 moles per 1 l of colour developer. The colour developer can also contain p-phenylene diamine cpds. that contain a water-sol. gp. A method for processing silver halide colour photographic material using this developer is also specified and described.
