Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a composition material, excellent in mechanical strengths, heat stability, chemical resistance and processability, by subjecting a solution containing a metal alkoxide, a silane coupling agent and water to hydrolysis by adding thereto an acid catalyst and polycondensing the hydrolyzate by adding thereto a basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. metal alkoxide (A) [e.g., Si(OC2H5)4] and 1-300pts.wt. silane coupling agent (B) (e.g., gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane) are dissolved or dispersed in 1-30mol., per mol. of component A, of water to obtain a solution or a dispersion. A hydrolyzate is obtained by subjecting this solution or dispersion to hydrolysis by adding thereto 0.01mol. or above, per mol. of component A, of a sol-gel process acid catalyst (e.g., hydrochloric acid). To this hydrolyzate, is added at least 0.01mol. per mol. of component A, of a sol-gel process basic catalyst (e.g., tributylamine), and the mixture is polycondensed by irradiation with ultraviolet rays at a wavelength <=250mn and/or electron beam at 0.1-50Mrad to obtain a composition material comprising a composite polymeric compound containing both inorganic and organic parts in the molecule.
