Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain uniform electrostatic charge on an image carrier by weakening the effect of a transfer means while the trailing edge of a transfer material is made abut on the area, where electrostatic latent image is not formed, of the image carrier at an abutting position where a transfer means is arranged. CONSTITUTION:While the trailing edge Pa of the transfer material P is made abut on a photosensitive drum 1 at the abutting position where a transfer electrifier 5b is arranged, when the transfer material P is made abut on the area, where the electrostatic latent image not formed, on the peripheral surface of the photosensitive drum 1, the discharge of the transfer electrifier 5b is weakened and a transfer current is set to be less than value for carrying out normal transfer. Therefore, when the trailing edge Pa leaves the photosensitive drum 1, peeling discharge is generated; plus charges in air move to the photosensitive drum 1 charged with negative charges; it is prevented from the damage, ie., a memory effect generated on the photosensitive drum 1. Thus, uniform electrostatic charge on the image carrier can be attained.
