Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a silica fume slurry, excellent in high-temperature stability, readily transportable and handleable and suitable for admixing with cement by using silica fume and water as principal components and regulating pH to a specific value. CONSTITUTION:Water is added to a silica fume formed as a by-product in producing silicon, zirconia, etc. The amount of the added water is preferably about 0.5-1.5 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. silica fume. The pH thereof is then regulated to 1-5.8 by a method for adding an acid (e.g. sulfuric acid) or blowing gaseous carbon dioxide, etc., thereinto to produce a silica fume slurry. A water-reducing agent (e.g. lignin sulfonic acid), fluidizing agent, defoaming agent, etc., can be further added. The resultant silica fume slurry is subsequently blended with concrete to improve both watertightness and durability of cured products.
