Abstract:
PURPOSE:To easily exchange liquid and to obtain a single crystal of a biological polymer by placing two nozzles to face each other in a distance of a diameter of a liquid drop, discharging a liquid from one nozzle to form a drop, and sucking the liquid in the liquid drop from the other nozzle. CONSTITUTION:A discharging nozzle 2 to discharge a liquid and a sucking nozzle 3 to such a liquid are so put to face each other while keeping a distance of about a diameter of a liquid drop in a necessary size for liquid exchange of a liquid drop to stop growing of a crystal of a biopolymer. Then, a solution which is a mixture of protein solution and an agent to make the solution water- insoluble is discharged from the discharging nozzle 2 to form a liquid drop 1 in a prescribed size and the drop is held by bringing the sucking nozzle 3 into contact with the other end of the drop. By this, the liquid in the liquid drop can be exchanged easily and a crystal grown under the very low gravity is recovered as it is. As a result, crystal structures of biopolymers such as proteins, etc., are determined accurately.
