Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title matrix at a high accumulation rate in high yield through e.g. the VAD process, by using, as the multitubular burner, a double flame-forming burner of specified structure and by controlling glass material flow. CONSTITUTION:As the multitubular burner, a double flame-forming burner comprising (A) inside flame-forming section with flame-forming multiblowout boats 2-4 located on the outer periphery of a material blowout central boat 1, and (B) outside flame-forming section made up of flame-forming multi-blowout boats 5-8 arranged on the outer periphery of the section A is used. Thence, a gaseous glass material is fed into the flame of said burner under such conditions as to satisfy the relationship: 0.4Q<=LXd<2=0.6Q [where, L(mm) is difference in level between the respective tips of the sections A and B; d(mm) is inner diameter of the boat 1; Q(cc/min) is glass material flow] to carry out flame hydrolysis and accumulated the granular glass thus synthesized, thereby obtaining the objective porous matrix for optical fiber.
