Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the superior emission by judging the deterioration of catalyst on the basis of the outlet exhaust temperature of three-component catalyst and carrying out the lean/rich air-fuel ratio combustion, in the air-fuel ratio feedback control using an oxygen sensor having an NOx reduction catalytic layer. CONSTITUTION:When an oxygen sensor A is used, having an oxygen catalytic layer and an NOx reduction catalytic layer which are formed on the surface on the exhaust side of an oxygen ion conductor which is used as the solid electrolyte for concentration cell, air-fuel ratio is controlled to a constant value in the vicinity of the true theoretical air-fuel ratio, and the conversion efficiency of the three-component catalyst C is improved. The outlet temperature of the three-component catalyst C is measured, and the control constant of the feedback correction coefficient is varied on the basis of the deterioration of the three-component catalyst C due to the difference from the temperature of the new substance. Accordingly, in the lean air-fuel ratio combustion, the center value in the air-fuel ratio control is shifted to the lean side, while shifted to the rich side in the rich air-fuel ratio combustion, and the lean and rich air-fuel ratio combustion corresponding to the deterioration is carried out, and even if the conversion efficiency of the three-component catalyst C is deteriorated, the superior emission can be obtained through the oxydation/reduction reaction.
