Abstract:
PURPOSE:To miniaturize an apparatus by a method wherein an output light from a light emitting element is projected to an object through a coupling optical system including a delay element, the reflecting light is received by the same coupling optical system, and the pattern is recognized from the presence or absence of the reflecting light in each bit. CONSTITUTION:An optical output from a light emitting element 1 is, through an optical element 2, ports 5a, 5c of a 2X1 diverging/coupling device 5 and an optical fiber cable 6, introduced into a 1Xn diverging/coupling device 7. The light diverged by the coupling device 7 is delayed for a different time depending on the kind of a delay element group 8, condensed by an optical element group 9 and cast to a display pattern of an absolute encoder 10. The light reflected at each bit pattern of the encoder 10 is returned to the same optical element and coupled by tone coupling device 7 thorough the element group 8 and led into the cable 6. The optical serial pulse passing the cable 6 enters a photodetecting element 4 through the coupling device 5 and an optical element 3. Tone element 4 processes the detecting optical serial pulse in a processing part thereof, reading the code, thereby to detect the absolute position.
